7. About the venue

CPW is a photography and visual arts center in Kingston, NY that facilitates artistic inquiry, professional development, scholarly research, critical dialogue, and local engagement through its exhibitions, educational programming, library, collection, learning and community spaces, and a 26-year-old artist residency program.

In 2023, Frances curated her first-ever exhibition at CPW’s former location on Broadway. In the Room featured three photo-based artists, whom Frances now considers friends, and is a major opporutnity she credits for her acceptance into an art history graduate program. She is now studying for her PhD at Columbia University, with a focus on the history of photography.

CPW, like many arts nonprofits, is currently under threat of budget cuts by the federal administration. It is one of the few photo-based artist residency programs in the United States that focuses on photographers of color, and numerous well-known photographers got their start in the residency in Woodstock. If you want to support the CPW’s important work, you can donate here.
